When this young lady approached me about doing a post-Christmas family session here in Raleigh, I jumped at the chance. She grew up here in the area and chose to use one of her favorite parks, Historic Oak View Park off of Carya Road, as her backdrop. She grew up going to this park, so it only made great sense to use it.
While family engagement sessions tend to focus on the family as a whole, I like to use the time to include some couple pictures and breakdown the family relationships.
This husband and wife image from the family session is a great example of taking the time to breakdown things down into a simpler image of the family. Great lighting, both natural and off camera, provided the perfect combination to step back and make a wider shot and bring in the environment. Simple and beautiful.
Oak View is great location with a historic background. It is a 19th century farm located just one exit from the 440/64 interchange in Wake county, only minutes from Wendell, Zebulon, Knightdale and other outlying towns, while being only a brief drive from Chapel Hill and Durham. With trails through the pine tree forest, which cross a small brook several times, mini waterfalls, a small outdoor amphitheater overlooking a wooded pond and various agricultural sites (cotton field and fruit/grape grove), the park is open all but major holidays.
Location: 4028 Carya Drive, Raleigh, NC 27610.
